If your business is product based, you have probably realised by now that selling online is just as important as doing it in a physical space. But for your online store to be successful you need to adopt certain strategies and features to make your customers enjoy their shopping with you and come back. For those of you who have decided to ditch the traditional shops and have chosen to operate exclusively online, it’s needless to say your ecommerce site must be top notch.
Engaging but simple design
You definitely want to make a great impression when a customer visits your site for the first time, but you don’t want to overwhelm them with unnecessary graphics and multiple colours and fonts. Remember your customers are there to buy your products, not to appreciate creative art design (unless you are actually selling art!).
Your ecommerce users should be able to navigate through your site with no sweat. Build your search options in a way that allows the customer to find exactly what they are looking for, using various dimensions. For example, if you are a fashion retailer, your customers should be able to search clothing by type, colour and size at least.
Call to Action Buttons
Don’t ever underestimate the power of content and visuals. Even if a person does not necessarily pay attention to a particular word or graphic, its frequent appearance gets stuck in their subconsciousness, urging them to act upon it at some point in time. That’s to say you need quite a few buttons displaying a call to action such as, “buy now”, “contact us today”, “get a free quote”, “add to basket”, etc.
Be Liberal and Assertive
Always ask your online customers to sign up, because this way you can have their contact details and easily maintain a good customer relationship. Offer them the possibility to also sign up for your newsletters, in which they may find exclusive offers and discounts, but never send those over if the user has specifically indicated they do not wish to receive any marketing communication from you. It would be extremely beneficial for your business to give your customers the opportunity to check out without having to register. It saves them time and rises your chances of getting them as regulars by at least 25%, and signing up eventually, of course.
Live Chat Support
We cannot stress how important great customer support is. Ecommerce businesses must provide outstanding quality customer service to the consumer and the best and most preferred form of customer support by far is live chat. It is basically like being in a real shop and talking to the retail assistant. To incorporate that feature on your website you don’t need to hire somebody to actually be online and do the job, your ecommerce site can be built with artificial intelligence, which will take care of your customer’s questions and concerns.
