Seems like it didn’t take too long for Whatsapp to change their mind they wouldn’t give away personal information to Facebook or other third party companies for business purposes. The mobile messaging app gained the trust of millions after it increased its security and encrypted the messages sent in a chat. However, every fairytale has an end and this doesn’t seem to be a happy one, according to most of the users.
Days ago Whatsapp, owned by Facebook, announced that it will now give users phone numbers and other related personal data to its owner, which will allow the mega powerful social network to improve on friends suggestions and target the population better for advertising purposes. Of course, for the corporation this is a bold business move, which is expected to bring them more profit from Facebook ads and business users add-ons. What is more, Whatsapp will now also allow some businesses to contact customers via the app to promote their products and services. Smart approach, unfortunately dreaded by many!
Facebook and co’s expectation to cash on this big change may go south quite quickly. Most of the users who spend hours on the messaging app do so because of the privacy they were guaranteed… until now. A vast majority of whatsappers threaten to stop paying and delete the app if this announcement is put into practice.
Are you one of those people who don’t like the idea of their personal data being distributed to parties they didn’t intend to release the information to? You can’t stand marketing calls and texts flooding your phone? There’s good news. Well, good news for you and not so much for Whatsapp. There are plenty of other messaging platforms who take your privacy seriously or at least allow you set how much of your info and activity is visible. Just to name a few – Viber, Telegram and the newly emerging Imo.
Not so sure those are good enough too? Why don’t you hit us up with your idea of a similar app development? Your idea can change the way we communicate today and Design Droids can help you make it a reality!
